The PGDP Grove's Dictionary Uber-Project

NOTE: THIS PROJECT IS CLOSED AS OF FEB. 22, 2015.

This wiki is for volunteers who are working on the music notation for Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians, an UberProject at Project Gutenberg Distributed Proofreaders.

Grove's Dictionary is considered by most scholars to be the best general reference source on music in the English language. The first edition, edited by Sir George Grove (1820-1900), appeared in 1878 in four volumes. The five-volume second edition was edited by J.A. Fuller Maitland and was published between 1904 and 1910. This (in a 1926 reprint) is the edition being used for this UberProject.

Grove's Dictionary is rich in musical illustrations, which are being processed separately from the text, right here on this Wiki, by volunteers using free music notation software such as Finale Notepad, Lilypond, or any music notation software capable of producing midi files. This Wiki explains how you can help with this part of the project and provides a place to upload your music notation or midi files.

For information on the proofing and formatting phases of this UberProject, please see the Grove's Uber-Thread. The Grovers Team Thread is the place to post your music notation questions and get to know your fellow Grovers.

JulietS is the Content Provider for the Grove's Dictionary UberProject; LCantoni is the Project Manager and the Post-Processor. Many thanks to velkvelk for putting the project together.
